Villamare is the most amenity-rich oceanfront condo complex in Palmetto Dunes and one of the largest on Hilton Head Island, with 160 units spread across three five-story buildings. A landmark $3 million pool renovation completed in 2024 added an adults-only Serenity Pool (the first in Palmetto Dunes), a family pool, two hot tubs, a fire pit, and gas grills — all overlooking the Atlantic. The year-round Health Club with indoor heated pool, jacuzzi, steam sauna, and full fitness center means you are never without a place to swim or work out, even in January.
The building distinction matters when booking at Villamare. Buildings 1 and 3 face the ocean and command 30-40% higher rental rates. Building 2 faces interior lagoons, fountains, and landscaped grounds with turtle sightings — quieter and more affordable, with genuinely pleasant views. All three buildings have covered parking garages with elevator access, a significant advantage over complexes with open lots. The private beach boardwalk leads to three miles of gated Palmetto Dunes shoreline that stays noticeably less crowded than public Forest Beach.
As a Palmetto Dunes property, Villamare guests get access to the full resort infrastructure: three championship golf courses, 47 tennis and pickleball courts with two free hours daily, an 11-mile lagoon system for kayaking and fishing, and the free Dunes Buggy shuttle to Shelter Cove Marina. Off-season rates can drop below $150 per night for the same oceanfront amenities that command summer-peak pricing. The trade-off is limited walkability to dining beyond the resort, and elevator reliability has been a recurring guest complaint.
Our take: Most amenities of any building in the portfolio with a stunning new pool complex, but unit quality varies wildly between buildings and floors — and the elevators have a reputation for reliability issues.
Getting around: Moderate within PD. Dunes House beachfront dining walkable. Most dining/shopping requires Dunes Buggy shuttle or bike. Full grocery stores ~10 min drive.
