    Five-plus miles of shaded internal paths connect the oceanfront strip to the racquet center, golf courses, and the lagoon. Beach biking at low tide. Hilton Head Outfitters delivers bikes to the unit.
  • Free Dunes Buggy
    Complimentary shuttle (seasonal April–September) loops between the beach, Dunes House, racquet center, and Shelter Cove Harbour. The easiest way to get to dinner across US 278 without driving.
  • Walk
    The Dunes House is a beach walk from anywhere along this strip. The boardwalk-to-sand transition takes a minute. For everything else (racquet, golf, dining), bike or shuttle.
  • Car
    Helpful for grocery (Kroger at Shelter Cove Towne Centre, ~10 min) and anything off-resort. Inside Palmetto Dunes during shuttle season, you can mostly leave it parked.

  • The Dunes House — Casual beachfront bar and grill. Walk up from the sand in your swimsuit. Fish tacos, burgers, frozen drinks, live music. The best beach bar experience inside any HHI resort.
  • Big Jim's BBQ, Burgers & Pizza — Where golfers eat after a round and families bring kids without stress. Fall-off-the-bone ribs, grilled pizza, happy hour weekdays 4–6pm. Serves breakfast too.
  • Palmetto Dunes General Store — Operating since 1979. Named 'Best Fried Chicken' on Hilton Head. Famous cinnamon rolls, biscuits with sausage gravy. The soul of Palmetto Dunes.

Shelter Cove Harbour

Four on-site restaurants is enough for a long weekend but can feel repetitive over a full week. Shelter Cove adds variety — and the free Dunes Buggy makes it painless. HarbourFest on summer Tuesday nights adds live music, food vendors, and fireworks.
